Our Story
Flea Market to Western Tradition
Liberty Western’s journey began in 1994 at a humble table in a local flea market. What started as a small operation selling a variety of jewelry quickly found its true identity in the western lifestyle. The shift began with something simple: hat bands. Their popularity sparked curiosity, and soon classic cowboy hats followed. As interest grew, so did the business — leading to the opening of Liberty Western’s first storefront in downtown Lebanon, Ohio.
It was a meaningful step forward, giving customers a permanent place to shop and connect. By 2001, the store outgrew its original footprint, prompting a move to its current location on Cincinnati Avenue. With more room and more offerings, Liberty Western became a local fixture — a destination for western wear, boots, tack, and gear.

A New Generation Steps In
In 2016, a high school student named Clint joined the Liberty Western team as a part-time employee. It was meant to be a side job, but it turned into something far more meaningful. It was there that he met Grace — now his wife — and began forming a deep connection with the store, the people, and the culture that defined it.
In 2023, Liberty Western faced a pivotal moment when Dan Tormey, the store’s founder and longtime guiding force, was diagnosed with liver cancer. With limited family support, Dan placed his trust in Clint, leaning on him for both personal support and help managing the business during a difficult time. Clint and Grace stepped in without hesitation.
Their commitment didn’t go unnoticed. As the months passed, Dan saw something familiar in Clint and Grace — a passion and dedication that mirrored his own. In a quiet but powerful moment, Dan asked them if they would carry on the legacy of Liberty Western.

Carrying the Brand Forward
Taking ownership of Liberty Western wasn’t something Clint and Grace had planned. But the opportunity to steward such a meaningful legacy was deeply personal. The community embraced them immediately, offering encouragement and support as they stepped into their new role.
From day one, they poured their energy into honoring the store’s roots while modernizing where it mattered. They enhanced the shopping experience, introduced new brands, and curated a product mix that reflected both tradition and fresh perspective. Within the first year, they brought in premium brands never before sold in Ohio retail — including Hyer Boots and Fenoglio Boots — met with excitement from longtime and new customers alike.
Their success wouldn’t have been possible without the trusted partnerships they’ve built along the way. Dedicated sales reps, industry supporters, and longtime customers have helped shape Liberty Western’s next chapter — and that support continues to fuel its momentum.

A Story Still Being Written
Today, Liberty Western remains true to its mission: serving the western lifestyle with authenticity, hospitality, and heart. Clint and Grace carry on the values Dan instilled — building community, helping customers find what they need, and offering a space that feels like home.
From flea market beginnings to a cornerstone of downtown Lebanon, the story of Liberty Western is one of grit, growth, and connection. And the journey is just getting started.
